In short, as good s he was, do you think that he is overrated?
Randy Rhoads a heavy metal guitarist,he is best known as playing with Ozzy Osbourne,His career was cut short after an accident while on tour.He also influenced other guitarist with style of playing.He was a keen classical guitarist and he would mix this with his own style of heavy metal.
Is he rated too highly no i don’t think so, but you could say he was one of the best.

wHat are guitar scales and how do I use them how do I transpose them I’ve learned the minor scale but I don’t know how to use it… Should I memorize the sounds of the scale?

Basically scales are what you can use to play guitar solos and little lead licks. The minor scale you speak of is probably the pentatonic minor scale, and if so its invaluable.
You don’t need to intentionally memorize the sound of the scale – that will come naturally.
How do you use it? Here’s how: If you are playing along with a song, then you have to find the key of the song. Once you do, play the pentatonic scale starting on the 6th string (thickest) at the fret that is the note of the key of the song (ex. Key of A, start at the 5th fret (which is A))(Key of E, start at the 12th fret).
If you really want to get started, download a blues backing track in the key of A, and start playing any wild combination of notes in the scale (starting at the 5th fret as mentioned above) over the backing track. Hold some, do some vibrato on some. This is what the scale is really about and is the basics behind how people play lead guitar and solos.

Well recently i have been looking up on the internet for guitar softwares so i can learn on my own time. I need one that can help me play rock/metal. Another reason i want a software for learning because in the summer i will always busy and have no time for lessons with an instructor. So any good softwares out there?
Having tried a lot of these packages, I will have to say that Guitar Superstars is probably the best out there for rock/metal http://learnelectricguitarnow.net/guitar-superstars
Kudos to you for not going with that all to familiar train of thought "how can I teach myself guitar for free in no time and be super awesome". Good luck which ever avenue you take!

I just bought a guitar and want to learn how to play without having to pay for lessons. I dont know any keys or notes or anything.

This trailer is to the Retrospective film documenting the electrifying music of guitar legend Larry Coryell.
When we first set out to work with Coryell, I had originally intended to create a documentary on the man, with the obvious emphasis on his excellent guitar playing.
It was upsetting to know a man of his talent was being ignored by mainstream media (i.e. Rolling Stone) as one of the greatest guitarists of all time. Tackling almost every genre, admired by his contemporaries, yet never receiving his due respect.
While in his home in Orlando, we went over some ideas, played some of the old tunes going back to 1966, and as we moved forward to some of the harder hitting, funkier stuff of the late 60’s and early 70’s, he sat back, laughed, and said, “I’ve got to start playing like that again.”
The documentary that was supposed to be a life journey, then turned into more of a great concert and journey into the hard hitting music of that time.
