are there any really good and accomplished guitar players that never took lessons?
all guitar players have studied someone else’s playing and music at some point so every one has had some kind of lessons weather they are formal or informal. Jimi Hendrix was a great fan of jazz guitar and studied many great players. Slash used to sit for hours playing along with all the great rock guitarists and perfecting the riffs. Randy Rhoades would take lessons with local classical guitar instructors while on tour with ozzy.
Unless you have lived on an isolated dessert island all your life and a guitar just happened to wash up on shore, you will inevitably learn from other people. Many younger players these days claim to be self taught from watching you tube etc. That is the same thing as taking a lesson. Some one else did the work and has passed it on in the form of a video
lesson. We all use our own ears and abilities to become a better player and develop a unique style. But we all owe a debt to the players who came before us and we owe it to the ones coming after us to pass the torch!

The Essential Guide To Guitar Virtuosity is not your typical guitar instructional ebook. It is not a theory book, or how to build guitar solos from scales, rather it is a guitar exercise training ebook.

Yes there are some.
Most however studied seriously with teachers and other musicians.
The bragging rights of saying I never took a lesson in my life, usually means they did not pay for any but constantly studied other players and met with as many as they could to exchange ideas and get through tough spots.
I highly recommend studying with a top notch teacher. Find one that has definitely produced excellent players. You most likely won’t find that teacher at the local music store.
You need a course of instruction.
The best way is with a private teacher
2nd would be class lessons
3rd regularly get together with other guitar players
or if you absolutely will or can not do the above, Buy a book on how to play the guitar and follow it religiously.
last would be to find some free online lessons and skip around in them doing what YOU think you want to do next.
Guitar is one of the world’s most popular instruments.
It is easy to take with you.
It has a sound that people like.
It can be use in almost any type of music.
Almost anyone can learn to play it.
Simple music is easily played after only a few days or weeks.
You can continue to learn new and challenging music forever.
