I have been wondering about who the great guitarists are out there are that nobody knows about. The genres that I am wondering about are rock, soft rock, blues and fusion. Name any guitarists you know that resemble Mark Knopfler, David Gilmour, Walter Becker (steely dan), clapton, jeff beck or hendrix (even though noone sounds like hendrix).
Walter Trout comes first to mind.
Although not unknown, the following are personal favorites of mine
Rory Gallagher (r.i.p.)
Roy Wood
Robby Kreiger
Hubert Sumlin
Grant Green
Robin Trower
Carlos Santana
Lee Ritenour
Roy Buchanan (r.i.p.)
Lonnie Mack
Johnnie Winter
Kenny Burrell
Tal Farlow
Joyce Cooling
Emily Remler (r.i.p.)
Duane Allman
Gary Rossington
and last but never least…
Frank Zappa

The Essential Guide To Guitar Virtuosity is not your typical guitar instructional ebook. It is not a theory book, or how to build guitar solos from scales, rather it is a guitar exercise training ebook.

Rory Gallagher is pretty well known, but deserved more recognition.
There’s lots of great ones that never got popular, but other guitar players know of them from reading Guitar Player magazines.

Johnny Hiland (country, but you must check him out!)
Finally, Unknown Hinson (totally whacko, but a great guitarist!)
