I see people do this all the time, and my friends electric does this. What do I have to adjust to make the notes louder when i tap the fretboard?
Simply turn up the volume, but be very careful lest you hit really loud bad notes! Try asking your friend how he does it.

your guitar needs to have really good pick-up and it will work if you turn the amp up louder than normal
