Lets say I just practice playing three notes per string scales on the guitar (I’m not talking about learning music theory and stuff, JUST the physical side of it). How long will it take for someone to be able to run their fingers fast and fluently along the fretboard (shred)?
Thanks!
well it all depends on who you are really…some poeple can play fast when they first start…but id say it takes a good 2 years maybe only one if u r self taught.

The Essential Guide To Guitar Virtuosity is not your typical guitar instructional ebook. It is not a theory book, or how to build guitar solos from scales, rather it is a guitar exercise training ebook.

Yeah, it’s pretty much impossible to say as there are so many variables. Some people just can’t move their fingers as fast as others.

Its a complicated question really. I would say from experience that X skill level + X number of years playing + X guitar= shreadability level. although this could go many ways. It would depend a lot on what guitar you have, ESP’s, Ibanez’s, and Jackson’s are the best for shredding, however I’ve seen people shred with Fender Strats as well. As for the time it takes, I have played guitar for two years with formal lessons (fairly good ones) and still am only beginning to figure out shredding. I personally started out playing simple riffs. The one in the "Dream On" intro by Aerosmith is a good one, just for starters, although its not necessarily head banging metal shredding (if your into that kind of thing).
