One of my problems while I’m learning to play guitar is my inability to "memorize" the notes on the fretboard. I know what they are, but I’m not yet able to go right to the ones I need in a quick manner. Any guitar players have a technique they used to learn them faster? Let’s assume that I can do these exercises with and without a guitar (assuming I’m at work and have some down time, but no guitar).
Your best option is to learn the Chromatic Scale of each string, starting with the opened name and progressing upward, even past the 12th fret.
To help in this approach form the basic F chord and identify the names of each note that is produced. Then slide the chord upward to the next fret and identify each note. Continue with this method until you reach the 12th fret with the F chord. The notes duplicate themselves in the 13th fret, but in an octave higher.
I suggest the F chord because it can be readily used all over the fretboard, just as Bbm, Fm, Bb, and C# formations. Once your expertise develops in using these moveable chords on the fretboard your knowledge of individual notes will grow too.

The Essential Guide To Guitar Virtuosity is not your typical guitar instructional ebook. It is not a theory book, or how to build guitar solos from scales, rather it is a guitar exercise training ebook.

When I first started I used the neck to make words and remembered the location of all the C’s to the 12th fret. It helped me .
Example : Think of it like a cross word puzzle. Across and down
if you look here at this diagram of the guitar neck
http://www.justinguitar.com/en/TB-007-NotesOnNeck.php
you can see words
3, 5, 7 frets spell GAB followed by at the 8 and 10 frets CD (compact disk). I called this down. Also remember any thing found on the top E string will also be found on the bottom E string and also in the same location. Remember that, if at the 3,5,7th frets you find the word GAB it is easy to find the notes between
Now if I looked across the neck at the 2nd fret on the A string you will see BEA
At the 5th fret on the E string you will see AD (across)
5th fret on the G string you will see CEA
7th fret across you see BEAD
At the 10th fret on the G string across you see FAD
Some of these words are made up words but it helped me.
What really helped me was learning the C scale Shapes or patterns in all locations and remembering all The locations of every C on the neck to the 12th fret , as I could then Just find a C , do a pattern and say the alphabet as I went and find any note I was hunting.(the C scale has no sharps or flats) It is easy to find the notes between as they will either be a sharp or a flat. I would highly recommend this as your starting step. It will be a great benifit to you
It was a combination of these and other things that helped me.
And last but not least, TIME, IT took time
Just find a method that works for you, IT might be a combination of several things
