i dont know my guitar scales, so i really dont know where to start. like do i need to know alot of scales? is it neccesary, and why? and i dont get the modes- ionian, dorian, etc- what are the purpose? if you can answer any/al of these questions or direct me to a very good website, that woulod be great thanks!
scales are an important part of music the more you knoww, the more you can play, I would start out with the Minor Pentatonic scale, 90% of all rock uses this scale, As for the Modes go, Modes are based off the Major scale, The modes are in order, Ionian, Dorian, Phrygian, Lydian, Mixolydian, Aelian, Locrian. Modes are made up from the notes of the Major scale, starting at diferent points of the scale, Ionian mode (also Known as the Major scale)starts on the tonic, Dorian starts on the second note of the major scale,Phrygian the third, and so on, THEY ARE VERY IMPORTANT TO LEARN! learn them you can play anything!!! I would go to Google And type in "guitar scales" you will get all the info you need to get started. Good luck, and Rock on!

The Essential Guide To Guitar Virtuosity is not your typical guitar instructional ebook. It is not a theory book, or how to build guitar solos from scales, rather it is a guitar exercise training ebook.

Guitar scales are how you learn to play solos over chords. ANd how you write your vocal melody.
A scale is a select group of notes.
Ultimate-guitar.com is a good site to learn lessons.
