I just started playing guitar and i am confused as to what guitar scales ARE exactly and what they are used for, and i fail to grasp the overall concept of what they are, i just don’t understand, can some help?
they make you be more accurate at playing the notes and faster at doing them. also, you can break them down and you can make songs out of them by moving around the fret board.

when your playing a solo you should know what key your in and you need to know what scale your in if you dont have a solo you already made up before, its something you need to follow, but not follow completely, you just jam off of a scale and you follow where the notes are. its hardish to explain on a computer

ive been playing for about 3 years, and i started off just reading Tab and working my way up from power chords n that, n i found it miles harder to learn solos.
you learn scales because then you can easily put solos into songs and different riffs which match the chord the song is in, it also helps you with your finger work and after practice you can go through a scale really fast, or even to sweeps if you get really good.
id recommend learning them, learn a few songs but try n learn a few scales, its boring as but its miles easier later if your in a band or whatever
hope this helps

the overall concept with scales relates to key signitures. if you play a scale and then play a note that isnt in that scale, it sounds… off… right? thats why if you learn the correct intervels and everything you can easily write good melodies, solos, chord progresssions and riffs. in a general sense that is. hope that helps
