I used to play when I was much younger an would like to pick i up again. Can anyone recommend software for a beginner?
Don’t use software. It’s a very outdated approach to learning. It’s stagnant.
The web have developed into the perfect platform for online learning. My site uses video lessons, has weekly video lesson updates, and even has a forum where you can ask questions.

The Essential Guide To Guitar Virtuosity is not your typical guitar instructional ebook. It is not a theory book, or how to build guitar solos from scales, rather it is a guitar exercise training ebook.

I think the best software is iperform3d. Its lessons that let you view the lesson from any camera angle and at any speed to see exactly what is going on.
There are a lot of online training systems, but not a whole lot of guitar learning software and iperform3d is the best.
Good Luck learning!

if you actually want to get good at guitar, i would suggest taking classical guitar lessons and learning to read notes. Rock music is not complex at all and won’t challenge you. If you want to be taken seriously as a musician, you should look into traditional styles of learning. I’ve been playing classical guitar for a year now and I already play with an ensemble and i am on part number one! Learning by tabs wont teach you music, learning classical style will make you a real guitarist.
By the way, dont think that just because classical music has a bad rep that it is bad. It will really help you become a better musician and a smarter person in general.
